Tag-General Information

All dogs four months of age or older must have a county dog tag. One-year tags and multi tags are renewed annually. Three-year tags are renewed every three-years, the three-year tag should align with your dog's rabies vaccination. All tags are processed in the Dinwiddie County Treasurer's Office. Please see the list below of locations where tags can be purchased.

Deadlines for Renewal

The annual deadline for purchasing a one-year dog tag or a multi-dog tag is February 1.  If your dog is receiving a rabies vaccination in the current year, you will need to purchase a corresponding three-year tag within thirty days of the vaccination.

A valid rabies certificate must be presented at the time of purchase.

Dog Tag Information

Beginning in 2026 - New Three-year dog license will be available in addition to One-year and Multi-tags

If your dog will receive a three-year rabies certificate in the current year, you will be required to purchase a corresponding three-year dog license. (Please note if your dog is receiving a rabies vaccination this year, you will need to purchase a three-year tag within thirty days of the vaccination). If your dog’s rabies certificate is not up for renewal this year you will need to purchase a single tag, until your next three-year rabies vaccination.
