Alcoholics Anonymous

AA meetings in Virginia provide persons experiencing addiction with the support and guidance they need to achieve lasting recovery, one day at a time. These programs are peer-directed and based on the 12-step model of recovery. This model embraces a stages-of-change approach predicated on whole-person healing that integrates participants’ physical, psychological, emotional, social, financial, and spiritual recovery.

AA programs in Virginia are community-based, free, and anonymous. Participants engage in group meetings and recovery education programs, including topic-specific discussion groups, guest speaker lecture series, recovery-focused life skills training, and recovery-focused reading groups. AA members also receive one-on-one coaching from a self-selected sponsor, who is also a peer in recovery.
