What is VA Deed Alert?

VADeed Alert is a free service that allows residents to receive electronic notification whenever a document is recorded in our local land records that matches your name or Tax Map/Parcel ID number.

Important Items to Understand:

•    Active Monitoring: This system acts as an early warning signal, notifying you of any recorded activity—such as unauthorized transfers—so you can respond to potential fraud before it escalates.

•    Awareness Only: The service does not prevent a document from being recorded, nor does it validate the legality of a filing.

•    Next Steps: If you receive an alert for an action you did not authorize, you should review the activity with the Clerk’s Office and seek legal advice.

Understanding Deed Fraud

While Deed Fraud is a serious form of identity theft, it remains rare, and there are no reported cases in Dinwiddie County at this time. Typically, criminals target secondary homes, rentals, or vacant properties by forging the owner’s signature to "sell" the property to themselves or a third party.
